David Robinson

Nicknamed “The Admiral”, David was a major part of the rebirth of the Spurs franchise earning Rookie of the Year honors in 1989-1990 and leading the team to the greatest single season turnaround in NBA history. A few years later the Spurs would break their own record when they drafted Tim Duncan in 1997. In 1992, David was part of the Olympic “Dream Team” that brought home the Gold Medal at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain.

David helped build the foundation for a Spurs franchise that is now one of the most revered in the NBA today. He helped them become a perennial playoff team and is one of only 5 players in NBA history ever to score more than 70 points in one game.

During his last years in the NBA, David helped found Carver Academy, a non-profit private institution that has since become a public charter school. The school was built with the goal to create better opportunities to educate and nurture inner city children. David’s ongoing philanthropic efforts are a testament to his character and genuine desire to help others make positive changes in their lives. Each year, the winner of the NBA Community Assist Award is given the David Robinson Plaque as a commemoration of their service.
