Olympic Speaker Kristin Armstrong is a 3-Time Olympic Gold Medalist, professional cyclist and mother. She is the reigning women’s individual time trial Olympic Champion after winning the Gold Medal in 2008, 2012 and 2016. Kristin has raced professionally since 2001 having appeared in events on the National Racing Calendar (NRC) and UCI Women’s World Cup.
Through setbacks and Gold Medal moments, Kristin is the true definition of a champion. She first represented the U.S. as a swimmer in the Junior Olympics and had a great running career at the University of Idaho. After college she began training as a triathlete and worked as the Director of Aquatics at a YMCA in Boise, Idaho. In 2001, she was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in both her hips, seemingly ending her hopes to compete for her country as an Olympian.
But even osteoarthritis can’t stop Kristin Armstrong! She dedicated her training to cycling and was a member of the T-Mobile, Team Lipton, and Cervelo Lifeforce Pro Cycling Team from 2001-2009. To date, she has won 3 World Titles, and 5 National Championships in cycling. Kristin got her first taste of Olympic competition when she placed 8th in the individual time trial at the 2004 Olympic Games, the highest finish of any U.S. team member that year.
The 2008 Olympic time trial was a race to remember when Kristin crossed the finish line as the Gold Medalist for the first time in her career. It was then that she decided to take some time off and start a family. She returned to competition in 2011 refreshed, refocused and dialed in on another Olympic Gold. She became the oldest rider in Olympic history to win the individual time trial at during the 2012 Games in London. In 2016, she won her third individual time trial Gold Medal in a row and broke her own record as the oldest rider ever to do so just a day before her 43rd birthday.
