Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, from Cape Town, South Africa, began her career representing West Cape in the Miss South Africa 2017 competition, where she took the crown. She then went on to win Miss Universe 2017 with two tough questions answered regarding women’s empowerment.
Host Steve Harvey began with the question, “What quality in yourself are you most proud of and how will you apply that quality to your time as Miss Universe?”
The influential speaker, Nel-Peters replied, “As Miss Universe you have to be confident in who you are as an individual. And Miss Universe is a woman that has overcome many fears and by that she is able to help other women to overcome their fears. She is a woman that nothing is ever too much to ask for and I think that is exactly who I am.”
Female motivational speaker Nel-Peters mentioned during the competition that she wanted to use her self-defense workshops to help as many women as she can. The self defense advocate did just that with the launch of Unbreakable, a global initiative aimed at empowering women with the mental and physical training they need to fight off potential attackers through a series of workshops.
Recently, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters (24) and Tim Tebow (32), the Denver Broncos star, New York Mets Left/Center Fielder, and Florida Gators Heisman Trophy winner, announced their marriage on January 20, 2020. They reportedly met at a charity event called Night to Shine. The annual Night to Shine event churches and charities from around the globe host prom nights for individuals with special needs. Tebow’s non-profit organization is a close partner with the charity event.
In an appearance on Today in 2018, Tebow said his charity invited Nel-Peters and her family to the event, which led to his proposal to Nel Peters. They tied the knot at La Paris Estate in Western Cape, where Demi Leigh Nel Peters was close to her South African culture.
The model for hire has a huge social media following of 1.5 million followers on Instagram, where she promotes the saying “If you believe in something, believe in it all the way.” Her average post on Instagram gets around 40k likes.
