Sports Motivational Speaker Becky Hammon is a former WNBA All-Star who recently became the first full-time female coach in NBA history when she was hired by the San Antonio Spurs in 2014. Becky serves as an incredible role model for women in sports and business, breaking down barriers to become a coach on professional basketball’s highest level. In July of 2015, the Spurs announced that Becky would take over as head coach of the Spurs’ summer league team. A few weeks later she led the team to the 2015 Las Vegas Summer League title, becoming the first female NBA head coach to win a summer league title.
Before changing the game in the NBA, Sports Motivational Speaker Becky Hammon was a standout star in college and the WNBA. She played college ball for the Colorado State Rams and graduated from the university as the Western Athletic Conference’s all-time leading scorer. In 1999, Becky signed to the New York Liberty of the WNBA and quickly became a fan favorite for energy and tenacity on the court. She played her way into the starting 5 with the Liberty before being traded to the San Antonio Silver Stars during the 2007 WNBA Draft.
She found new life as a member of the Silver Stars and averaged career highs in her first season with the team. She was given the nickname “Big Shot Becky” for her uncanny ability to score under pressure. She is one of only a few of WNBA players to record at least 3,000 points and 800 assists in their career. In 2011, Sports Motivational Speaker Becky Hammon was honored as one of the WNBA’s Top 15 Players of All-Time. She retired from playing in 2014.
