He set a new heptathlon world record at the 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships before qualifying for his first trip to the Olympics later that year. Ashton blew away the competition for the Gold Medal having already earned enough points to guarantee the win before competing in the last event, the 1500M run.
His domination continued over the next few years, winning the decathlon world title in 2013 before taking some time off in 2014 to rest. He again won the world decathlon title in 2015 before bringing home another Gold Medal at the 2016 Olympic Games. Ashton will surely go down as one of the greatest track and field athletes in history in both indoor and outdoor events. He is married to Canadian track and field star Brianne Theisen.
