Sports Speaker Yadier Molina made his debut with the St. Louis Cardinals during the 2004 season and was selected over Matheny in Game 4 of the 2004 World Series. The 2006 season in Game 7 of the NLCS, Yadier hit a two run home run in the top of the ninth to secure a trip to the 2006 World Series.
On January 14, 2008, Yadier and the St. Louis Cardinals signed a four year deal and this same year, he won his first of four Gold Glove Awards. He has represented the Cardinals in the 2009 Major League Baseball All Star Game where he also won his second Gold Glove Award. In 2010, he became the first player at any position to win the Fielding Bible Award with a perfect score of 100. The Cardinals went on to win the 2011 World Series giving Yadier his second championship ring and setting a World Series team record with nine RBI. In 2012, the Cardinals extended Yadier’s contract to five years making him the second highest paid catcher in the majors. The 2012 season was Yadier’s crowning achievement as a hitter, setting new career highs and leading the team in batting average, becoming the first catcher in franchise history to do so.
With such a great season Yaider’s popularity grew, making his jersey sales ranked third in MLB jersey sales. In 2014 Sports Illustrated featured Yaider on the cover of the March 31 issue. At the end of the 2014 season, Yaider was awarded his seventh consecutive Gold Glove tying for third most Gold Gloves among catchers. He set yet another MLB record when he received the Platinum Glove award for the third time in the award’s first four years. He is currently still playing for the St. Louis Cardinals and is available for speaking engagements, personal appearances and sports clinics.
