Striker for Manchester United and the England National Team, Sports Speaker Wayne Rooney made his international debut in 2003 as the youngest player to represent England. Rooney scored his 150th goal in the 2011-2012 season, becoming the highest goals scorer since the beginning of the Premier League for Manchester United. In the 2014 FIFA World Cup, England was in their second group match up against Uruguay where Rooney scored his first ever goal in a FIFA World Cup finals. Following Steven Gerrard’s international retirement after the 2014 World Cup, England named Rooney England’s new captain. With this new role, Rooney took initiative to be an effective leader by conducting player-only meetings to reflect on players performances and how they can play better as a team. In November 2014, he won his 100th England cap (international match appearances) against Slovenia in a UEFA Euro 2016 qualifier. Most recently, Rooney scored the winning goal in June against Slovenia with only four minutes remaining in the match.
