Tyler graduated from the esteemed culinary program at Johnson & Wales University. In New York City, Tyler established himself as one of the finest young culinary stars. Tyler showed his skills under the city’s leading chefs including Charlie Palmer at Aureole, Marta Pulini at Mad 61 and Rick Laakonen, and eventually being named top chef at Cafeteria. As his career started to pick up, a new TV network took notice of his abilities, and the rest is history.
He became a hit for the Food Network and his since has starred in many series including, How to Boil Water, a cooking show for beginners; Food 911, as well as his most popular series, Tyler’s Ultimate. Celebrity Chef Speaker Tyler Florence has also hosted various other Food Network shows, including Planet Food, All American Festivals and My Country, My Kitchen. Tyler has also appeared as a guest on The Today Show, CNN, The View, Access Hollywood, Extra, and Good Morning America. He appeared on Oprah where he dished up a seven day meal plan that even a beginner chef could follow.
Tyler opened his first kitchen retail shop in 2008 called The Tyler Florence Shop in Mill Valley California. Satellite stores will be opening in San Francisco International Airport and in Napa. A new restaurant idea of Tyler’s is, Tyler Florence Rotisserie & Wine which will be neighbors to the Napa shop. Also occurring in 2008, Tyler released two best-selling cookbooks: Stirring the Pot and Dinner at My Place.
A year later, Tyler created a signature line of steel-clad cookware and titanium cutlery on HSN and is now at major retail stores across the United States. One of the stores currently selling his products is Macy’s, where Tyler is a member of the prominent Macy’s Culinary Council. 2009 was a great year for Tyler, because he also opened his first signature restaurant called The Empire Plush Room at the Hotel Vertigo in San Francisco. In 2010, Tyler Florence opened Wayfare Tavern in San Francisco where diners can enjoy classy American cuisine. Tyler’s next opening was El Paseo in Mill Valley which offered a more masculine feel to the dining experience. The cuisine features think cut steaks, seafood and even bone morrow. Many diners love Tyler’s warm bohemian atmosphere, and especially love the bathrooms where the walls are covered with pages of old books.
On May 25, 2011, Celebrity Chef Speaker Tyler Florence dished out free hot dogs in Time Square to celebrate The Wienermobile food truck’s 75th anniversary. He served dogs out of the famous dog-shaped car and Tyler created gourmet toppings for the hot dogs including his dad’s organic turkey chili recipe, crispy-fried vidalia onions, pasta salad and grilled pineapple relish.
