Steve Garvey

Celebrity Sports speaker for hire Steve Garvey is a former MLB All Star and World Series Champion. Playing 18 years in the MLB for the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres, “Mr. Clean” recorded nearly 3,000 hits and owns the record for consecutive games played in the National League.

Drafted in the first round out of Michigan St. University by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1969, Garvey debuted at first base. That was the start of a long and successful career as Garvey would play 14 seasons with the Dodgers. He won the NL MVP, League Championship Series MVP for his outstanding series against the Phillies, four Golden Globe Awards, the Roberto Clemente Award for exemplary sportsmanship and community involvement, 8 All-Star game appearances and a World Series victory.

Garvey would later play a stint with the Padres for 5 seasons, earning two more all-star game appearances, and extending his consecutive game streak, causing Sports Illustrated to dub him “Iron Man”. He would help lead the Padres to a World Series birth and end his career as a staple in baseball history, retiring in 1987.

Post-baseball, Garvey has planned events including the Steve Garvey celebrity Blue Marlin tournament, as well as the Steve Garvey celebrity skiing challenge. In 1988, Garvey founded Garvey Communications, which mainly focuses on producing television infomercials. Garvey has also stayed involved with baseball and the MLB since his retirement,  returning to the Dodgers in their community affairs department for 15 years and serving as a board member for the Baseball Assistance Team, a nonprofit organization that helps baseball players through financial and medical hardships. In addition, Garvey is a prostate cancer survivor and fights to raise awareness for diagnosis and treatment of the disease.

Garvey is also an active motivational speaker for corporate organizations, has hosted Baseball’s Greatest Games, and starred in movies such as Direct Hit, and The Sandlot 2. Garvey often hosts events at Dodger stadium including a “Grillin’ with Garv” series and will host the 2019 “Way We Were” series for the Dodgers, answering fan questions and celebrating the start of the MLB season.
