Journalist, television personality, and celebrity speaker Sam Champion was the weather anchor on the national ABC morning show, Good Morning America, for seven years and worked for the network for a total of twenty five years before leaving his post in December, 2013 for a position with The Weather Channel. During his time with GMA, Champion gave the nation its weather forecast each morning of the work week and regularly traveled to report on weather around the country. Devoted to his job, it was a common occurrence to turn on the show and see Sam reporting in hundred-mile per hour winds of a hurricane, standing just yards away from raging wildfires in California, or inspecting the disaster areas after catastrophic tornado strikes in Tornado Alley. He became the managing editor of The Weather Channel in 2014.
More than just a weatherman, Sam Champion also frequently served as a news anchor alongside co-anchors George Stephanopoulos, Robin Roberts, Lara Spencer, and Josh Elliott. In 2007 Sam and his GMA family were awarded the Daytime Emmy Award for Excellence in Morning Programming for Good Morning America; he shares the award with the production team, co-anchors, correspondents, and the entire staff for the show. Throughout his career, Champion has also appeared as a guest on numerous television shows including Larry King Live, Paula Deen’s show, Paula’s Party, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Wheel of Fortune, Piers Morgan Tonight, Live with Kelly and Michael, ABC Evening News, Katie, The Rachael Ray Show, The View, and The Chew with hosts Daphne Oz, Clinton Kelly, Michael Symon, Carla Hall, and Mario Batali.
