Rachel McAdams is a Canadian actress who has starred as the leading lady in a number of top films. McAdams developed an interest in performing at an early age, appearing in a number of children’s theatre productions. After being persuaded by her drama teacher to pursue a professional acting career, she enrolled in York University’s four-year theatre program and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2001. Rachel is the current star of the 2nd season of HBO’s hit drama, True Detective.
Her first Hollywood movie was The Hot Chick in 2002 and is considered a milestone in her acting career. McAdams found big-time fame in 2004 with starring roles in the teen comedy Mean Girls and later the romantic drama The Notebook. The films earned her multiple MTV Movie Awards and Teen Choice Awards. In 2005, she appeared in The Wedding Crashers, Red Eye and The Family Stone and was hailed as “the next Julia Roberts.” The same year, she was recognized as one of Hollywood’s up-and-coming stars at the BAFTA Awards with a nomination in the Best Rising Star category.
McAdams withdrew from the public eye in 2006 and 2007 and turned down leading roles in films such as The Devil Wears Prada. She returned to the Hollywood light in 2008 with appearances in political thriller State of Play, science-fiction romance The Time Traveler’s Wife, and adventure film Sherlock Holmes.
