Nigel Morris

Social Media Speaker Nigel Morris is the co-founder of Capital One alongside Richard Fairbank. Nigel retired as COO in 2004. Under his leadership, CapitalOne pioneered an information-based strategy that altered the consumer lending industry. His strategy combined advanced statistical marketing techniques with nascent information technologies; the company reduced costs to conventional borrowers, extended capital to overlooked consumers, expanded internationally and created amazing returns for investors.

As the COO at Capital one, Nigel spent his 10 years with the company growing its sales. CapitalOne’s sales grew at an annual rate of more than 40% and the earnings per share growth and return on equity both exceeded 20% per year. In 2004, the year he retired, CapitalOne managed over $80 billion of loans for 50 million customers, which generated $1.5 billion in profit. From an emerging start-up to an established company, CapitalOne made a successful transition to a company valued at over $20 billion.

Nigel Morris currently serves on the board of The Economist Group, New Philanthropy Capital, London Business School, and Venture Philanthropy Partners. He also counsels General Atlantic Partners, Columbia Capital, and his own portfolio of early-stage companies.  He is available for speaking engagements, personal appearances and public events.
