Celebrity speaker, Jake Owen, is one of the hottest stars of Country music today. Born in Winter Haven, Florida, Jake did not grow up with a passion for music. He instead took an interest in sports, and was pursuing a career as a professional golfer. When he was in college at Florida State University, he suffered a terrible wakeboarding accident, which resulted in reconstructive surgery and Jake unable to play continue his career in golf, but this tragedy might have been a blessing in disguise. While recovering from the accident he picked up the guitar and began teaching himself how to play. He began playing gigs at campus bars and writing his own material, then like any aspiring country artist, he moved to Nashville to try and make a name for himself. Before he knew it, he had a record deal and a single titled Yee Haw, which came in at No. 16 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. In 2006 he released his first album, Startin’ with Me, which produced three Top 20 Billboard Hot Country songs. His next album was released in 2009, Easy Does It, and once again Jake’s songs were filling up the country music charts. His third album released in 2011, titled Barefoot Blue Jean Night, brought Owen his first number one hit on the country charts with title track Barefoot Blue Jean Night. Owen claimed the number one spot on the charts again with his song Beachin’ from his fourth album Days of Gold. Additionally Jake been able to enjoy touring with some of Nashville’s biggest stars such as Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley, Sugarland, Keith Urban, and Jason Aldean. Jake’s most recent project and fifth album “Real Life” is currently being created and will debut sometime in the summer of 2015.
Outside of the country music world, Jake Own established the Jake Owen foundation in 2010. The Foundation is designed to support local Florida charity the Mardy Fish Foundation and its mission to assist youth in the Indian River County, and help expand its reach nationally to children fighting cancer and other diseases. Jake also frequently holds fundraisers for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and visits families and children at St. Jude in Memphis. At home, Jake is married to wife Lacy, and the two have one daughter.
