Sports speaker Alex Morgan is a Forward on the US Women’s soccer team and Portland Thorns FC of the National Women’s Soccer League. At the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Germany; she was the youngest member of the US squad. Alex scored her first career FIFA Women’s World Cup goal in a 3-1 victory against France in the tournament’s semi-final round. At the 2012 London Olympic Games, Alex scored the game-winning goal in the 123rd minute that allowed the US team to advance past Canada in the semi-finals. The US Women’s team would go on to capture Olympic Gold at the 2012 London Games. In May 2019, Morgan landed her second cover for Sports Illustrated’s swimsuit edition.
By the completion of 2012, Alex had scored 28 goals and tallied 21 assists. Those tremendous stats put her in the same company as US soccer legend Mia Hamm being the only two American Women to amass 20 goals and 20 assists in one calendar year. Alex was also named the 2012 US Soccer Female Athlete of the Year. She has signed major endorsement deals with many companies, including Coca Cola and Nike and has appeared in their national advertisements. Alex averages a goal per 90 minutes of playing time in international play and looks to be a key component to the 2015 USWNT’s return to glory and capture the 2015 World Cup in Canada.
